Disney launches ‘DCA Today’ on Twitter and Facebook

It’s been a big week for Disney California Adventure. In addition to Cars Land and the Carthay Circle Theatre being unveiled, Disney also announced some new social media tools for guests visiting DCA.

In a post on the Disney Parks Blog, Disney announced a new “DCA Today” Twitter and Facebook page:

“It’s easy to connect with Disney California Adventure park during your visit – just follow @DCAToday on Twitter or visit the DCA Today Facebook page on your mobile device while you’re at the park to receive tips and live updates and to ask questions,” Erin Glover, Manager, Social Media and Print said in a post on the Disney Parks Blog.

According to Disney, the accounts will be used to provide guests with Disney FASTPASS availability information, upcoming show times, information on character meet-and-greets and other tips and live updates. Obviously, both are free to guests.

The @DCAToday Twitter account is similar to the underused and nearly abandoned @TodayatWDW account. This account was created last April and was initially intended to “offer real-time updates and tips as they happen in and around the parks” during Easter weekend. The account was last used on Dec. 31 for the NYE crowds.

As I mentioned in a post about President Obama’s visit to WDW, there is endless potential to these “live” Twitter accounts. This type of interaction is incredibly valuable and it gives guests a feeling they can talk to Disney during their trip. Guests getting “tips” and being able to ask questions are almost certain to have a better experience inside the park.

It will be interesting to see how Disney uses the @DCAToday accounts over the next few weeks. I’ll be watching it closely to see if this new program would be successful at Walt Disney World.

My Take:

I’m not sure I can accurately convey how much I love this. If you used effectively, I think this could be incredibly useful for guests and a huge success for Disney.

This is a great idea for trying to caatiplize on the market of Harry Potter but there won’t be much to the LONDON portion that would be much excitement. I would love to see what they would do with a 2 second train ride into IOA as you can walk right across. Aren’t they building TRANSFORMERS in one of their other parks? Maybe this is really for Transformers.I think some people mistake Disney quality for “LAZINESS”. I’m pretty sure even though most attractions are geared for children, that the quality of the story and experience is hands down superior to Universal. As far as new attractions and technology, one only needs to wait for Disney to finish their expansion and introduction to AVATARLAND. Don’t knock it, until you’ve experienced it.
